WINEMAKING

100-year-old Shiraz vines planted on black sandy soil part of an ancient river bed.

Selectively picked in early morning hours at 14° Baume to preserve natural acidity and aromatic compounds. The fruit is gently destemmed and berry sorted. 7-day cold soak at 8°C , slowly fermented for 14 days in small open-top fermenters. Peak fermentation temperatures are held at 18°C with gentle pump overs with air twice daily.

Aging 36 months in French oak barrels (100% new), Malolactic fermentation completed naturally in barrel.

Drinking beautifully now through 2055

TASTING NOTE

The Tiberius McLaren Vale Shiraz opens with a deep, alluring presence — a luxurious swirl of black plum, blackberry, and dark cherry enriched by notes of violet, cracked pepper, and cocoa nib. Hints of warm spice, charred oak, and ironstone minerality rise gently from the glass, giving the wine a sense of quiet authority and depth.

On the palate, Tiberius is bold yet seamlessly refined. Layers of blackberry, plum compote, and boysenberry unfold with impressive richness, settling into a powerful, sculpted mid-palate accented by dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and a whisper of black pepper. The tannins are finely honed — firm, elegant, and beautifully proportioned — guiding the wine with confident structure while maintaining an effortless flow. A bright line of acidity carries the dark fruit, adding purity and lift to the wine’s generous core.

The finish is long, savoury, and deeply resonant. Notes of spiced blackberry, cocoa, pepper, and graphite linger with refined persistence, leaving a final echo of warm earth and dark fruit that speaks to both the power of the terroir and the finesse of the season.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does Tiberius Shiraz taste like?

It shows deep blackberry and plum flavours with layers of spice, dark chocolate, and subtle oak, finishing long with a firm, structured feel. It’s powerful but refined as it opens up.

  • What is the alcohol content of Tiberius Shiraz?

Expect around 14%–14.5% ABV, giving it a full-bodied and intense profile suited to bold red wine lovers.

  • Is Tiberius Shiraz dry or sweet?

It’s a dry wine, though the richness of the fruit can create a smooth, slightly plush impression rather than a sharp finish.

  • How does McLaren Vale influence this wine’s style?

The region contributes ripe fruit concentration, smooth tannins, and depth, helping create a Shiraz that is both powerful and well-balanced.

  • Does this wine need decanting before serving?

Yes—decanting for 30–60 minutes helps soften the tannins and unlock its full complexity.

  • Can I drink Tiberius Shiraz now or should I cellar it?

You can drink it now with decanting, but it also has the structure to age and develop more complexity over time.

  • What is the ideal serving temperature for this wine?

Serve at around 16–18°C. Slight cooling can help highlight its structure and freshness.

  • Why are low-yield vineyards important for this wine?

Lower yields produce more concentrated fruit, which translates into richer flavour, deeper colour, and stronger structure in the wine.
