The Curtis Legion Merlot stands as a testament to the McLaren Vale region's versatility beyond its Shiraz fame. This distinguished wine showcases the exceptional potential of Merlot when grown in McLaren Vale's unique terroir, where maritime influences meet a Mediterranean climate.
The winemaking process begins with a careful cold soak lasting 7 days, allowing gentle extraction of color, flavor, and aromatic compounds while preserving the fruit's elegant characteristics.
This meticulous approach continues with a 14-day fermentation period, optimizing the development of complex flavours and structural elements that define premium Merlot.
Following fermentation, Curtis Legion undergoes an extensive 36-month maturation in oak barrels. This patient aging process allows the wine to develop remarkable complexity while softening its structure and integrating subtle oak characteristics with the fruit's natural expression.
The extended barrel aging bestows the wine with sophisticated layers of flavour and a refined texture that complements the varietal's inherent silkiness. This careful maturation transforms excellent fruit into an exceptional wine, creating depth and nuance that only time can provide.
